چکیده

1.1. Languages. Let Σ be an alphabet i.e. a finite set of symbols. The set of finite words on Σ is denoted Σ∗. A language is a subset of Σ∗. For a language L ⊂ Σ∗ the associated decision problem is as follows. On input a word w ∈ Σ∗ we want to decide if w belongs to L or not. Examples : even integers, prime integers, etc. For a function f : Σ∗ → Σ∗, the associated functional problem is as follows. On input a word w ∈ Σ∗ we want to evaluate f(w). Examples : multiplying, factoring, etc.

Symmetries and similarities of planar algebraic curves using harmonic polynomials

We present novel, deterministic, efficient algorithms to compute the symmetries of a planar algebraic curve, implicitly defined, and to check whether or not two given implicit planar algebraic curves are similar, i.e. equal up to a similarity transformation. Both algorithms are based on the fact, well-known in Harmonic Analysis, that the Laplacian operator commutes with orthogonal transformatio...

Gaussian Approximations of Objects Bounded by Algebraic Curves

We present a discrete approximation method for planar algebraic curves. This discrete approximation is hierarchical, curvature dependent, and provides eecient algorithms for various primitive geometric operations on algebraic curves. We consider applications on the curve intersections , the distance computations, and the common tangent and convolution computations. We implemented these approxim...

MAPC: A library for E cient and Exact Manipulation of Algebraic Points and Curves

We present MAPC, a library for exact representation of geometric objects { speci cally points and algebraic curves in the plane. Our library makes use of several new algorithms, which we present here, including methods for nding the sign of a determinant, nding intersections between two curves, and breaking a curve into monotonic segments. These algorithms are used to speed-up the underlying co...

Geometric algorithms for algebraic curves and surfaces

This work presents novel geometric algorithms dealing with algebraic curves and surfaces of arbitrary degree. These algorithms are exact and complete – they return the mathematically true result for all input instances. Efficiency is achieved by cutting back expensive symbolic computation and favoring combinatorial and adaptive numerical methods instead, without spoiling exactness in the overal...

Computations with Algebraic Curves

We present a variety of computational techniques dealing with algebraic curves both in the plane and in space. Our main results are polynomial time algorithms (1) to compute the genus of plane algebraic curves, (2) to compute the rational parametric equations for implicitly defined rational plane algebraic curves of arbitrary degree, (3) to compute birational mappings between points on irreduci...
